In The Studio
I created Skyward to capture the feeling of looking across the marsh and being drawn upward by an expansive coastal sky. Layers of blue, coral, peach, and soft lavender move through the atmosphere, while the winding tidal creek below carries those colors back through the landscape.
I wanted the piece to feel open and restorative - a reminder of the perspective that comes from standing beneath a wide sky, watching light shift across the marsh, and allowing the landscape to quiet everything else for a moment.
About This Piece ▾
Skyward is a vertical Lowcountry marsh landscape inspired by the relationship between an expansive coastal sky and the tidal waterways below. The composition gives the sky room to lead, with layered blues, corals, peach tones, and soft lavender creating an atmospheric field of color above the marsh.
A winding creek moves through the grasses and reflects the changing light, drawing the eye from the foreground toward the distant horizon. The balance of expressive sky, quiet water, and grounded marsh gives the piece a feeling of openness and calm while preserving the movement and texture of the coast.
