In The Studio
Windswept captures the feeling of open air and movement along the water near Pitt Street Bridge in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. I was drawn to the way the grasses bend, palms rise along the horizon, and changing light moves across the water - a landscape that never feels completely still, even in its quieter moments.
Rather than describing every detail of the scene, I wanted space, breeze, and atmosphere to carry the painting. Layers of warm and cool color move through the grasses, water, and distant landscape, suggesting the shifting conditions that are so much a part of being near the coast.
Pitt Street Bridge is one of those familiar Lowcountry places where everyday life unfolds alongside the water - walking, fishing, crabbing, birding, gathering, and simply stopping to take in the view. That relationship between landscape and lived experience became an important part of this piece.
Part of the Coastal Landscapes collection, Windswept reflects my ongoing interest in the places where water, weather, vegetation, and daily life come together along the South Carolina coast.
About This Piece
Windswept is a contemporary Lowcountry coastal landscape fine art print by Ryan Beck inspired by the waterfront near Pitt Street Bridge in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Coastal grasses, palms, water, and open sky create the structure of the landscape. The grasses appear shaped by the breeze while layered warm and cool hues move across the composition, capturing the changing light and atmosphere of this familiar Lowcountry setting.
The horizontal composition emphasizes the openness of the waterfront and allows the landscape to stretch outward. Rather than relying on tightly rendered detail, the original painting uses color, movement, and expressive marks to suggest the experience of standing near the water as wind moves through the grasses and palms.
Pitt Street Bridge is a well-known part of Mount Pleasant's coastal landscape and a place where people gather to walk, fish, crab, birdwatch, picnic, and spend time along the water. In Windswept, that familiar setting becomes less about a single activity and more about the atmosphere and sense of place surrounding it.
Produced from a high-resolution scan of my original painting, each museum-quality giclee is available on archival textured paper or stretched canvas.
