In The Studio
View From Here was inspired by a hike along Great Island Trail in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, where the landscape opens to expansive views of the dunes, beach, and water. Having grown up on Cape Cod, I have always loved the quieter stretches of the Outer Cape, where the land feels open and the beauty is found in its simplicity.
I wanted to capture the feeling of looking out across this landscape rather than painting every detail. I kept my layers loose, working with broad passages of olive green, muted sand, and soft coastal blue. The sandy paths and contours of the dunes emerge through expressive brushwork and overlapping marks, allowing the landscape to feel both familiar and slightly abstract.
What stayed with me was that moment when you reach a higher point along the trail and the view opens up. The quiet, the changing colors, and the feeling of being surrounded by so much open space. I wanted the painting to hold onto a little of that experience.
About This Piece
View From Here is a contemporary Cape Cod landscape fine art print by Charleston, South Carolina-based artist Ryan Beck, who grew up on Cape Cod. Inspired by a hike along Great Island Trail in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, the square composition captures an elevated view across the rolling coastal dunes, sandy paths, and blue water of the Outer Cape.
Broad layers of olive, moss, and muted green suggest the undulating dune landscape, while soft sandy neutrals trace the natural contours of the terrain. Beyond the dunes, cool blue water meets a pale sky touched with lavender and blush. Loose brushwork, visible texture, and overlapping marks give the painting an expressive, contemporary quality without losing the recognizable character of the Cape Cod shoreline.
There is a particular kind of beauty to the Outer Cape. The landscape feels expansive and a little wild, with winding sandy trails, low coastal vegetation, and stretches of water that appear unexpectedly as you make your way through the dunes. It's a place that invites you to keep walking, just to see what might be around the next bend.
For those who know Wellfleet, the Great Island landscape carries its own associations. Long walks with family, sandy shoes, the changing light over the water, and the familiar feeling of returning to a place that has remained part of your life through different seasons and years.
View From Here was created to preserve that sense of openness and connection. For Cape Cod natives, summer residents, and collectors who love the quieter landscapes of New England, the painting offers a reminder of the places where life seems to slow down and there is room to think, wander, and simply take in the view.
With its natural greens, coastal blues, soft atmospheric sky, and balanced square composition, View From Here brings a sense of space and quiet movement to Cape Cod homes, New England coastal retreats, living rooms, bedrooms, and thoughtfully collected interiors. Its expressive interpretation of the landscape works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary settings.
Reproduced from Ryan Beck's original painting, View From Here is available as a fine art giclee print on archival textured paper or stretched canvas.
