In The Studio

I created Sunset on the Hour as a nod to those familiar moments spent paused near the Ben Sawyer Bridge, surrounded by coastal inlet waterways, shifting light, and birds moving through the marsh. Anyone who knows this stretch between Mount Pleasant and Sullivan's Island understands the rhythm of timing travel around the bridge as it opens for boat traffic below.

What might feel like a delay becomes something else entirely when the light is right. Through layers of color, reflection, and atmosphere, I wanted to capture that unexpected pause - the warm sky, the water beneath, the quiet movement of the coast, and the beauty found when life asks you to wait.

About This Piece
Sunset on the Hour is inspired by the Ben Sawyer Bridge, the familiar coastal crossing between Mount Pleasant and Sullivan's Island. Warm light settles across the water and sky while the bridge rises through the composition, grounding the scene in one of the Lowcountry's most recognizable rhythms.

This piece is about the beauty of a pause. For those who know this place, the bridge opening is part of the ritual of island life - boats passing below, birds moving across the waterways, and drivers waiting as the coast briefly takes the lead. Layered blues, softened corals, and golden light create a sense of movement held within calm.

Whether displayed in a coastal home, waterfront retreat, beach cottage, entryway, or thoughtfully collected interior inspired by life near the water, Sunset on the Hour brings color, memory, and the quiet poetry of the Lowcountry into the home.

Produced from a high-resolution scan of my original painting, each museum-quality giclee is available on archival textured paper or stretched canvas with mirrored wrapped edges.
